Yam Dreaming (Body Paint)
Emily Kngwarreye, 1995
Acrylic on Canvas, 48 x 36

Emily Kngwarreye was the most highly regarded Indigenous Australian artists of her generation.

Over the course of a meteoric seven and a half year career she consistently pushed the envelope of painterly abstraction in the genre while still remaining true to the core concerns of all Aboriginal Art, depicting the power of the Dreaming stories of which she was custodian. Her late brush stroke style paintings are derived from women's ceremonial body paint designs.

Emily's painterly abstraction explores the themes of land, family, and the seasonal renewal plants an animals, the rhythms of the natural cycles.
